Urugo Roadside Café sits just off the main road in Kayonza, making it a natural pause point for travelers heading towards Akagera National Park or locals looking for a relaxed spot to break up their day. As a roadside cafe, it blends casual convenience with a touch of local charm, offering more than just coffee—it’s also a small hub for local art and crafts.

The café’s atmosphere is easygoing and welcoming, with friendly staff who create a convivial vibe that encourages lingering over your cup. The seating is comfortable enough for a brief rest or a quiet chat, and the presence of an adjoining art shop adds a layer of local culture that visitors can appreciate. You might find yourself browsing traditional imigongo paintings or locally woven baskets after your latte or cappuccino.

Quality coffee is clearly a focus here, with fresh brews made from beans sourced from respected Rwandan coffee producers. People often come for the café latte or cappuccino, which sit comfortably within the expectations for Rwandan coffee—enjoyable and smooth, if not overly fussy. The environment suits a slow moment, perhaps mid-morning or late afternoon, when the roadside can get busy but the atmosphere inside remains calm.

Urugo also serves simple fare like chicken pizza and sandwiches, which suits the café’s casual, on-the-go spirit. It’s a spot where local families, road travelers, and those interested in local crafts intersect naturally. The nearby market-like feel and selection of natural honey as a takeaway point to a café that is as much about the local community and its products as it is about coffee and snacks.

For anyone passing through eastern Rwanda or exploring the Kayonza area, this is a practical stop that offers a combination of refreshment, interaction with local art, and a snapshot of regional flavors—all without pretense or fuss.

A friend visited your cafe recently and brought us a gift, being your natural honey. It is delicious. The photos of your cafe look really nice. Wishes could visit you! Anyway, your honey made it to New York! Wonderful taste. Thank you and success with your cafe. Frank

The atmosphere is convivial, and the staff are nice. Just beside it is an art shop where arts and crafts can be shopped.

They have the coffee beans of "question coffee", which is one of the best cafe in Rwanda. I ordered cafe latte. It tastes pretty good, although not amazing. It has relaxing and chilling atmosphere. I like it.
